Homes for America, a Maryland company, is looking to rezone 30 parcels of land in the Belmont-Fallon neighborhood in Southeast Roanoke. The company is looking to construct three apartment buildings, totaling 155 affordable units.

The planning commission voted unanimously to recommend city council approval on the rezoning.

The land is currently owned through the Gateway Project, which is connected to the Roanoke Rescue Mission. The developer is looking to rezone all 30 parcels to residential multifamily districts with conditions.

Those who are interested in speaking on the rezoning request at the 7 p.m. Tuesday public hearing can sign up here.

Also during the evening session, the council will have the chance to accept a $20,000 donation from Pathfinders for Greenways to fund art murals along the greenways.

The Roanoke Arts Commission, along with Pathfinders for Greenways, created an “Arts and Amenities Fund” for support on projects like greenway murals.

Those interested can see the full agenda for the council’s 2 p.m. meeting and the 7 p.m. public hearing here.
