The Danville Planning Commission will consider a special use permit to allow a North Carolina-based pediatric therapy business to open a location in the city and create 200 jobs at its 2 p.m. Monday meeting.

Compleat Kidz has 19 locations in North Carolina and southern Virginia and provides therapeutic services for children with autism and developmental delays. The company wants to operate out of a building at 119 Cane Creek Blvd., which formerly functioned as a call center.

This location is zoned as a light economic development industrial area, which does not allow child therapeutic support services by right. Kare Partners LLC, which owns and operates Compleat Kidz, has filed a special use permit to allow the business to operate.

“Operations at the Danville location will begin care of 25 children with plans to expand to 150 children within the first year,” according to the staff report in the meeting’s agenda packet. “Within five years, Compleat Kidz will create 200 jobs,” with 90% of those positions being clinical roles.

The company has also pledged to be a long-term partner in Danville, with a minimum 15-year commitment to the community.

City staff recommend approval of this item, as the property has sufficient parking and will “expand access to essential services for children and fill a need for the community,” the staff report says.

Compleat Kidz focuses on underserved communities, particularly in semi-urban and small-town settings, according to the special use permit documents.

“Danville is an ideal location for expansion, as it currently does not have an ABA [applied behavioral analysis] therapy clinic,” it says. “Several parents from Danville and northern North Carolina have reached out to us requesting a clinic, highlighting a strong need for these services.”

Also on Monday, the Danville-Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facility Authority will meet at noon. On Tuesday, the Industrial Development Authority will meet at 10:30 a.m. and the Airport Commission will meet at 3 p.m. On Thursday, the Commission of Architectural Review will meet at 3 p.m.

In Pittsylvania County, the Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 6 p.m. Monday.
