School building projects and fire and rescue needs will be discussed Tuesday when Montgomery County supervisors meet.
The county board will convene in the second-floor board chambers at the county government center, 75 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg.
The meeting will begin with a closed session at 6:45 p.m. to receive advice from legal counsel and to discuss a public utility easement acquisition.
The board’s regular meeting will begin at 7:15 p.m.
Significant agenda items include:
- Discussion on whether to appropriate $150,000 of unbudgeted funds to supplement fire services and emergency medical services. The money would help those departments offset expenses, including costs associated with Hurricane Helene damage, maintenance costs on an Elliston fire department truck and unanticipated overtime costs related to extended paid parental and military leave.
- Discussion on whether to appropriate $330,000 from the general fund’s undesignated balance and put it in the capital projects fund to buy and erect a modular bunkhouse for the Elliston fire department, providing 24-hour coverage during renovations at the department’s permanent facilities.
- Discussion on transferring more than $430,300 to the school system’s capital project fund for the following needs: Auburn Elementary School HVAC upgrade design work, $192,600; Auburn Elementary carpet removal and tile installation, nearly $71,900; Harding Elementary School interior painting, nearly $51,900; and projects at Kipps Elementary School including playground equipment, $52,000; gym floor replacement, $43,550; and fire alarm system replacement, more than $18,400.
- Appointments to the county planning commission, board of zoning appeals, community services board, economic development authority, social services board, and fire and rescue commission; the New River Community College Board; the New River Valley Regional Commission; the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library Board; the Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority; and the New River Valley Regional Water Authority.
