The Cumberland Plateau Health District is offering free tetanus vaccines and boosters in Dante Wednesday to anyone affected by the weekend’s flooding and to those who are helping with cleanup efforts.

Shots will be administered from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dante Community Center, according to a post on the district’s Facebook page. Free naloxone also will be available.

The Tdap vaccine also covers diphtheria and pertussis.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, you may need a booster shot if it has been more than 10 years since your last tetanus vaccination, you have a puncture wound and it has been more than five years since your last tetanus vaccination, or you have a wound that has come in contact with flood water and it has been more than five years since your last tetanus vaccination.
